To be fair it is mostly Geoff Tate's fault
"Part of the problem was that although Tate claimed that especially Rockenfield and Eddie Jackson have been contributing a lot to this record writing-wise", according to Rockenfield, Tate discarded their songs and those of Wilton in favor of songs he wrote with outside writers, such as Jason Slater and Kelly Gray, who produced the album together. About the sessions for Dedicated to Chaos, guitarist Parker Lundgren recalls that "[p]reviously, it almost felt like there was a battle between what songs to use, mainly the producers. It was almost like they wanted to cut the band out of it, even being a part of the process. That's how I felt. There were songs that ended up on the record that I never even heard. The record comes out and I'm like, 'I never heard that song when we were in the studio.' It was just bizarre."

I didn't even know it was possible to give a "-1" rating. Until I looked in the thread lmao.

To be absolutely fair I just can't keep this at a 1 anymore. Tate's voice is a shell of his former self and the lyrics can be as bad as you want, but there's some legitimately entertaining and quirky music here and there.

At the Edge is the only tolerable song on this for me.

Good call on At the Edge yeah, Hard Times isn't that apocalyptic either (or maybe I'm just a sucker for prominent bass).
Song-wise it's a tragedy but the most annoying thing for me is that there are cool moments that pop out of nowhere, like 3:10~3:45 from The Lie or 1:40~2:20 in Retail Therapy. The players were there, for all it's worth.
Btw the deluxe edition of this lasts 71 minutes. Seventy-one, and it's all new songs
