I had no idea there was such a dedicated anti-following for this album lmao. Seems so random.

really? this band haunted the early 2010's for me. felt like pumped up kicks particularly was completely inescapable for years. i feel like these guys are just the ultimate accumulation of every indie hipster band trope of the late 00's. i'm not sure there is a Fiasco Gelato on the planet that didn't play them at least 12 times a day.

I went to a very hipster high school and that particular style - emulating shit like Hot Chip and MGMT - was the party music... it's all undeniably infectious, but in such an overbearingly effervescent way where the combination of not being able to get it out of your head and not being able to escape it gradually becomes maddening.

"but OS has Time to Pretend, Electric Feel, and Kids"

I recently listened to Oracular Specular for the first time in full after only knowing those 3 hits and Weekend Wars, and I gotta say: Kids and Time to Pretend don't hold up for me at all, then again I never really liked Kids to begin with...

They both rely so much on their main keyboard hook that the rest of the music feels so empty and lifeless, like radio static

"i can understand pots thinking this is awful, because he doesn't listen to enough metal to know how much more awful music there is out there :DDDD"

not sure why this of all things is such an important battle for you lol but i didn't even say it was the worst album of the 2010s. most annoying

"megadeth put out at least two albums worse than this in the 2010s as well :]"

Lmao and you'd have to forcibly restrain me to ever get me to listen to those to say one way or the other

Also irks how this shit went out and about trying to sell itself as a counterculture, like lol Foster the People and Vance Joy are way off the beaten path.

You ever heard of Portugal. the Man?

@Pots I can understand that. I remember it saturating the airwaves for years and years too, I was just on the flip side of your experience - everyone in my school liked Green Day and every whiny punk band out there so I didn't discover indie-anything until college. This came out before I had a chance to digest the stuff that it emulates so I latched onto it pretty willingly.

to elaborate on this a smidge, i probably would have given any number of these tracks a 3 or possibly even a 3.5 the first time i ever heard them... but after the 5 trillionth (mostly unwilling) time and the chorus of pumped up kids compulsively running through my head every time i'm even reminded of it to the point of it becoming a feverish daymare it is a hard 1 for a manic "must I literally drill this out of my head?" feeling.

Yeah this entire "scene" (MGMT, Foster the People, Portugal. The Man, Passion Pit, Electric Guest etc.) have that "it'll be stuck in your head even if you don't like it" quality
