The choice of the word "poor" IS a poor choice of word here. It's so subjective. Probably you think overcompressed masters and sterile mix that are so common nowadays are "good production" to you.
I think the production on early Voivod only enhances the raw energy displayed by the band on the record and are true to their DIY ethos (and 80s contemporaries)
