Personally, "Savior" was the song that ultimately introduced me to Rise Against in 2008, but after gradually listening to their older works, I'm more of a fan of Siren Song, RPM, and Sufferer. Not to say it's a bad song, but I prefer the fast-paced songs like "Give it All" and "Bricks". Well, pretty much every song off the 3 I mentioned. I also like a few songs off of AtR as well, so I can't say it was a bad album! "Collapse", "Re-education through Labor" and "Kotov Syndrome" are probably my highlights off that one!

And thanks for the welcome, Davey!

Hey, if they won a new fain from 'ATR' then in a way it achieved its purpose.... Especially if someone like yourself then goes & checks out the back catalog & falls further in lurvvve.

I certainly wouldn't have ever dug into their back catalog if it wasn't for Appeal to Reason.

I've only given this two listens but I liked it. The middle section of the record felt kind of dull to me. "Architects" quickly became one of my favorite songs of the year.

Hi,

Just to mention that when I first listened this album I was really disappointed since RA is my

favourite band, and I enjoyed and still enjoying their first 4 albums, I found this kind of boring.

Then I started to listen to it, to the lyrics more carefully, and now I've changed my mind, to me

it's a grower, it's better then ATR.

I think Satelite is the best song on the album, at least for me, it is.

It is pretty fast, it has catchy chorus, it got stuck in my head, really loving it.

I think RA are going in the right direction with they're new album. I think it's a mix of old and

new. Not too "radio friendly", not too hardcore.

And yea, I agree with andcas on this one, don't know why people are saying they sold out, just

because they changed their sound.

In fact if you listened to their older stuff you would notice this songs aren't that different.

Take "Anyway you want it" for instance, from RPM, it's a "radio friendly" song, much like

the new ones.

They had such songs in the past, but now they have more songs like that, then like

let's say "Blood to Bleed" or "Heaven Knows".

By the way is such a bad thing if a band like RA is played on the radio ?

On my opinion is a good thing that such bands are on the radio, cause I'm kind of tired of the same

pop dance and and hip-hop songs which are aired on the radios these days.

One more thing, I don't know why people seem to forget about The Unraveling, when they compare the

old RA to the new stuff? The Unraveling is their first and most hardcore album I think it's worth

mentioning.

I really loved The Unraveling in fact I'm still listening to it pretty often, it's fast, intense and

aggressive, it's RA.

Sorry for the long post, hope I didn't bore you. :p

Gee, the more we delve, the more 'ATR' becomes relevant.

Well said andcas.

I wouldn't say the middle section is dull Corey. It's more up & down. 'Satellite' & 'Survivor Guilt' are really good.

Hi Cosmin. Welcome to the site. And you definitely have some great comments there. I barely listen to the radio anymore, but if I did, I'd love to hear Rise Against on it. Most bands/singers that radio plays have crap lyrics & Rise Against do not. And well said on 'The Unraveling' too. I actually slightly prefet that to 'RPM'!

@Cosmin: Just a note, "Anyway You Want It" is a cover of the 80s song by Journey, which was always a radio friendly band.

EDIT: And it's a good cover too. ;-)

I always found that the weirdest cover for a hardcore/punk band to do, but in a way, that was the point.

@Damrod

Oh, sorry, I didn't know. Thank's for telling me, good to know.

That song was kind of ahem... "weird" for a punk band especially the lyrics, but hey I didn't know, so

I thought maybe the got a little soft or something. :p

Only got around to listening to this last night, albeit rather drunkenly. Needs a few more listens but it's looking like a 3- 3.5 so far

"is anyone really listening..." In the first paragraph would be better as is anyone really listening?", because otherwise that sentence is very hard to follow (especially if you don't consciously note that it starts with 'While').

Other than that, review is good, and makes me want to hear this (I already have it).

Great album, didn't like it that much at first but after a few more listens it really grew on me. For those that say Rise Against has sold out and that their old fans don't like the new stuff, I heavily disagree. I am part of the largest Rise Against forum on the net and from what I've seen, almost everyone luvs this album.

Hey, in my opinion, it ain't selling out unless the message is lost. To me, it feels the message is sent as strongly as ever! If that ever happens, that is when I might stop being a fan, however I find that extremely unlikely. The music is still there, and Tim and company are still passionate about the causes they support.

Technically tkxxx you are gramtically correct, but I wanted it to lead into the next question. 2 questions in 1 so to speak.

Great to hear that fans of the band love the album hook. And I agree that it needed a few listens to sink in.

Well said Brewers Boy. I'd almost say some of the messages are as strong as they have ever been. I think most people have issue with their delivery, but it's still fine to most of us.

I hate the term "selling out" but that's a pretty good definition right there Detriment. If RA have money in their minds at all, it's only as a medium to get their messages heard even more.
