Good review. Pos'd.
I like your opening statement on the state of new graduates. Reminds me of an argument I was having with a friend about the fact that he has a piece of paper that cost him 50 grand and I have a few classes here and there, yet I am the one who gets the work. The point of the argument being, while he was gaining a supposed education, I was working hard on my portfolio, sending out submissions endlessly and slowly but surely building a client base. So really what is the point of paying for an education unless you are going into a specialization such as a surgeon/doctor.
Everything else outside of specialized occupations you can communicate with others in your field of choice AND go to the underutilized library for (hell even the web is great), assuming you have the wherewithal to learn. When you get right down to it, the idea of higher education is a scam.
Edit: Sorry about the rant. Uh, great album?

I agree entirely with what you said, but it's too late to turn back now. The whole idea that people who continue their education are both better prepared and more knowledgeable is a crock, especially with the things I see students get away with time after time.
Also, thank you for not spamming something ra-tarded.

the idea is not a scam... the way it is typically put in to practice, at least in america, is a pretty horrendous scam

this is a pretty illogical point, guest...
i mean, i get that you're bummed about graduating without a job (or maybe you have a job but it's not your ideal job), but blaming "the system" or obama or union labor or your peers is sort of a cop-out.
recessions happen, man... we're just unlucky... be thankful you're smart enough to be depressed about it

I believe it was Thomas Jefferson who once said "Amia Venera Landscape" which in Latin translates to 'Love The Path Ahead Of You'

theacadamy: You are right the idea itself isn't a scam, however the product of higher education that is pushed by the private and public entities we know as schools in this day is. You are also right about it being so in the U.S., I say that because I myself have no experience with an education system anywhere else in the world.
Yes this is a Converge thread, on that note. I played this for my mom the other day while we were drinking bloody mary's and she loved it. Which was somewhat surprising.

honestly, I pretty much scammed my way through college, got myself a rather shitty but rather high paying job after graduating (getting hired in August, 2008 mind you, in the beginning of the recession), got laid off after a year and a half and got a good job a month later.
but I'm lucky to be a pretty good interview and to have the fortitude to withstand b2b sales. however, if I had applied myself in school (and I didn't go to some amazing ivy league school, I went to Northern Illinois University) I could have been much better off, as evidenced by where many of my classmates are.
it can be a scam, but it's equally what you make of it. at least when it comes to corporate america (that's all I really know anything about as far as the job market goes)
