he was just sayin he was deep in the ocean of her eyes. kinda funny (and weird cause radiohead's not supposed to be funny) but again, they fail at all? fail to do what?

"Thom Yorke revels in grey self-pity, avoiding melody at every opportunity. His trademark whine intrudes regularly, with lyrics that fail on every conceivable level."

I know you were on a roll, and you do make a compelling argument, no doubt, but you really fully believe the three points you made here? seems like you're saying it's an unconventional critique with a despairing pov, and i fail to see why any of that is a bad thing

Despair is one thing, and in art it can be something beautiful, but Yorke justs wallows in misery here. Self-pity isn't the same as despair, and it's perfectly conventional - just look at any soap opera. The lack of melody is just awful in this instance, too.

And while the ocean blooms

It's what keeps me alive

So why does this still hurt

half assed lyrics?

I know small children that produce better material than this, which is probably the best from the whole album, so yes.

I agreed with this review a lot when I first heard TKOL, but after about 20 spins of the album, I started buying into Adam Thomas' more. This album is killer.

Now, that isn't to say that the review isn't well-written. Indeed, in that regard, it is absolutely impeccable - definitely one of your best Phleb; perhaps even your magnum opus. I just don't happen to share your views (anymore).

Did you mean Downer, man? I can see the argument he makes, definately. Tbh aokuneff just irritated me by asking if I 'really believed' my points, as if they had to be made up.

Oh crap my bad. Yes I meant Downer (too many Adams on this site haha).

With regards to the "made up points"...for what it's worth, I showed this review to a friend of mine who is crazy about Radiohead (and loved TKOL), and he said that your arguments completely made sense, and that he wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if the points you chose to write about were the exact reason many neutral listeners or ardent supporters have ended up not liking TKOL.

That's cool, man - glad to hear. And I appreciate the support in general. I stand by the fact that you're one of the most helpful/encouraging users on the site.

Haha, it's probably the only thing I'm really good for on this site lol. That said, I'm told that I've apparently become a bit of a dick/cynic in recent times haha.

Sowing called it the "Ass Torch." Apparently it has passed from Waior to Sea to him and now to me. We need a new sickeningly-nice user to step up to the plate lol.

I would do it but I don't write enough and I've been an ass since before Sowing even registered.

Sputnik makes us all bitter in the end, but you only crush people that write shit reviews, so it's all good.

fishing you're one of the most on point people i've met on this site. phlebas, i was having a

friendly argument --> i agree with irving wholeheartedly that your points do follow a line of

reasoning that gave it 33 pos and 0 negs (for the record i was 1 of 33 on this one).

but when i say i listened to this album all the way through 20 times, in as varied of situations i

could before feeling confident enough to write about it, I am not exaggerating. Lots and lots of

people are going to look at this review, and it would be phenomenal if you touched over the points

when you were speaking out of passion (lyrics that fail on every level, seriously???),

and either reason your way a little more or added the kind of detail that would make your review

(already better than mine) one to rival the staff reviews.

lotus flower is a beautiful piece of poetry -- separator is not far behind it. the 3 lines i quoted

happened to be the most relevant on 'bloom,' which lyrically is nothing more than a filler song.
