Every once in a long while, I happen myself across a CD where upon first listen I know it will change my life, today happens to have been one of those days. James Blake takes the blossoming genre of "drum and bass" and combines it with his haunting, soulful, melodic voice, which comes together with such tremendous synergy that upon my first listen I almost started weeping.
The underlying music of this album makes you feel as if you have just wandered into a mysterious dark wet cave, you feel frightened yet at the same time you are overcome by an overwhelming curiosity to see where it leads, and what unknown wonders await you. The whole album has such a dark musical quality to it which in turn creates such a contrast with his weeping angelic vocals.
This CD will complete my life for the next few months I can already tell.

So, is this good entry-level dubstep? i've never listned to dubstep before and would like to start.

This isn't the best example for someone new to the genre tbh

How does that sound to you?

James Blake takes the blossoming genre of "drum and bass"
This isn't drum & bass, and drum & bass has been around for 20+ years so it's not exactly blossoming

This bored me. There is nothing to the album. So much open space.

In a musical world where people confuse quantity with quality, the amount of open space here is incredibly refreshing.
Seriously, if you think about it, it takes more courage today to have silence in a song than to have a lot of strange noises.

I apologize for writing with a little bit of imagery.
I didn't realize that drum and bass has been around for so long so forgive my remark on blossoming, but I do think that it is in its blossoming time.
Also, this does highlight some of the drum and bass feeling. I don't really know how I would classify this music.

I get what you're saying with regards to the "feeling" but I think you mean more in regards to the minimal nature, like it's just a voice and a little backing. If that's not what you mean then I'm a little confused because I don't see how this would in any way translate to something like this:

And no, Drum & Bass "emerged" and took form in the 90's
