Honestly Diary reminds me of Bayside so you know.
Not seeing it now.
Is CTTS screamo?
Colour me confused.
|
| |
yeah CTTS is screamo... but they pull in a few prominent influences and are far far from like your standard, quintessential screamo sound.
|
| |
So what is?
|
| |
I didn't think CTTS was quintessential/standard, but I'm curious.
|
| |
I would say Pg. 99 or Orchid, but people will probably rip me a new one because I am going to probably be totally wrong.
|
| |
Honestly just from an external perspective emo comes across as the most douchebaggy genre ever because its fans are so upset about the wrong labelling of things as emo so yeah I wouldn't be surprised either astrel.
|
| |
City of Caterpillar
Funeral Diner
Saetia
Ten Grand
and yeah I guess Pg. 99 and Orchid
those bands all have different styles but I'd say they're pretty quintessential even if they're not necessarily the best of the genre
|
| |
I haven't listened to City of Caterpillar in forever, I think I am going to bust that out right now.
|
| |
"the wrong labelling of things as emo"
are you referring to like when people get upset when MCR gets labeled as emo?
|
| |
I actually have City of Caterpillar, enjoy it. But thanks Eric!
|
| |
nah not at all. like, you just called diary to some extent emo. i think bayside's first album is not much different really to diary. i called bayside emo when i firt turned up here, and granted, i would probably have called tbs emo too, but people went apeshit when i called bayside's first emo, and i see a lot of similarities NOW between that and diary.
|
| |
ah ok. yeah I'm sorry I've never heard Bayside... from what I know they sound like they'd sound pretty emo though. Maybe whoever it was was just on-edge because of what I mentioned... having to explain that emo is entirely different than what most people's perception of it is? I dunno.
Diary also is a little grunge-influenced, I think, but oh well.

Bayside not so much, old Taking Back Sunday borders.
There's distinct differences though.
|
| |
Somebody please explain them to me because at the moment emo seems to be anything that sounds like some stuff I like except a bit less poppy and fewer people listen to it.
|
| |
Haha yeah, I feel like I have a pretty good grasp on what is/isn't emo soundwise, but you're probably better of getting an explanation from somebody else.
I think you basically hit the nail on the head... you like the more poppy end of emo.

List is missing Union Of Uranus, Honeywell, Death, You And I, Envy, Off Minor, Gantz, Shikari, Louise Cyphre, Aghast, Anomie,Jeromes Dream, Funeral Diner, etc.
Cause seriously, modern screamo is all just varying degrees of mixes of what all the bands you and I listed already did.
Plus Explosions In The Sky influence.
Also, which band doesn't fit in my list?!?!!?

I agree I also don't know the difference between pop-punk and emo pop
|
| |
actually Funeral Diner is on there already lol and yeah all those bands would work obviously I could've namedropped a gajillion more but what woulda been the point... was just naming a few

Oh wow fail. But the point is, a lot of those bands approached the style completely differently, while keeping some of the same elements, and you can hear the influence from almost every single one of them if you listen to any Raein album or a Seeing Means More album, you know?

Like what I mean is, the genre started out as something very very haphazardly thrown together based on minor similarities and evolved into a much more cohesive distinct sound.
