I don't think you know what derivative means, at least say where you think their sound is 'dervied' from, but whatever.
Great album - as I've stated so many times Senses Fail are by far my faverouite band; considering my music taste this is suprising, but there is just something about them that has kept me interested for the last five years. This is a good progression, and after some of the terribad lyrical work on LINAWR, the lyrics on 'The Fire' are a nice change.
Good review, btw. Very well written.

To Derive: taking something thats already been used and creating something out of it.
Senses Fail are just doing what a whole load of other bands have already done better.
Done.

Not a bad review but I think this is really really bad.

So, could you enlighten us all with these bands?

meh the choruses seem so underwhelming and the vocalist is kind of bad. maybe cause i just listened to the chiodos cd and the choruses and vocals and that were massive, idk.

Thanks Arucard. Lyrics are indeed good on here.
Yotimi, have you liked any of their previous stuff? If so, what don't you like about this?
I thought the choruses were pretty darn good here... I actually wasn't so sure on the first few listens, but they definitely grow to be catchy over time.

It's not obvious, Arucard?
Emery, Early Thrice, Emarosa, Dance Gavin Dance.... list goes on.
All of those bands follow a very similar formula in the way the songs are written, and they all do it better than Senses Fail.

Especially Emery. LOL.
Billy, did you prefer the heavier songs OR the catchy ones without the screaming?

Knew you'd pipe up as soon as i mentioned them, Davey. haha.
Gotta say i liked the heavier ones better, the 'catchier ones' weren't all that catchy to be honest, very skippable.

Davey - I actually used to be a fan of the band. But it seems like they use the same verse vocal melody in every song and I just don't hear any ambition at all here. Real formulaic too, don't hear anything new. Plus, not a fan of the lyrics - pretty juvenile to me (in a forced way, not a 100% sincere say-what-you-mean way that someone like Andrew W.K. does)
Not trying to start a debate here, just saying.

Nah, no probs at all Yotimi. It sort of sounds like you may have moved on from this type of music. I'd sort of agree there really isn't anything that new here, since I feel it just sums up the band's career well. I don't agree re: the lyrics though. Sure, the aggressive stuff they began their career with may have been more real, but it didn't exactly float my boat. To each their own I guess.

Has anyone made a "they should drop the 'Senses' part" joke yet?
