european union is a bit like united states except we dont all speak english and the shit countries get bailed out of problems by the rich ones
No dom, we got an opt-out from some treaty (maastrict i think) but they still let us in because they knew we'd be putting loads of our money in so they could throw it at spain, ireland and other shitty countries that were there with the begging bowl

It's debatable sonic.
There is something called the Barnett Formula which means Scots get a lot more public expenditure than English - basically tax from english people subsidises Scotland they get free prescriptions and student grants an stuff.
Scots would argue that North Sea Oil revenue compensates and it did during one single year but usually doesn't. Also some of the oilfields lie in what would be English waters if we separated.
But overriding all this is that scots can vote for independence next year but we dont have a say. Pisses people off in england.
Apparently in surveys they found out a higher percentage of english people want rid of scotland than scottish people want independence.
