Elliott Smith is hardly folk, he is almost 100% acoustic singer/songwriter, which falls under the umbrella-term indie. Tigers on Trains is indie-folk, which incorporates elements of acoustic singer/songwritership but is not the same thing. I love both of them though so I'm not even going to try to choose.
