'Benji is an album on precipice of something awful (those vocals, that music, diarrhetic lyrics), which makes its profundity all the more stunning. Too bad he had to shit the bed publicly, certainly curdled its stature.'

I really disagree, his profile has never been higher whether you like him or not, and he's done some other great work (often collaboratively) since 'Benji'.

He said releasing yet more stuff along the lines of the excellent but snoozy 'Admiral Fell Promises' would have been too easy and a slow fade to obscurity. Clever man. Funny man. What not to love?

(for me at least)

i'm no connoisseur and indeed have peasant's ears but the mixing on the reissue is weird, loud on the gentle tracks and soft on the tracks with oomph. and i don't like that it ends with the acoustic cover -- feels like a hasty tack on -- but i mean album still rules so

the reissue i’m familiar with is the one with Somewhere, Arrival, and the alt version of Carry Me Ohio. ‘live’/‘acoustic’ versions are kinda common for reissues if there are no actual new material to be released.
