I agree with most users that this is their worst. Musically uninspired, and way too poppy and way too many "woah's". However, the lyrics on this album are still better than what most songwriters can come up with.

I know I'm in the minority but I rate AM!'s later material a lot higher than their first two full-length albums. Like... Reinventing Axl Rose has like, 3 songs I can actually stand, and As the Eternal Cowboy has maybe 2 at most? And even then I can only dig the live versions.
Like, to me, Searching for a Former Clarity, New Wave and White Crosses all remind me of Blackout-era Dropkick Murphys in a way, and I love that stuff. And then there's Transgender Dysphoria Blues, which I relate to on a deep level personally.

Oh and I've seen people noticing the Springsteen-like songs. I do know that "Because of the Shame" has the same chord progression as Bruce's "No Surrender" and that was done on purpose. The song was written for a friend of Laura's who died and they always listened to Springsteen together when they were kids. Her friend had actually thought "Thrash Unreal" was written about her and took it harshly. So Laura wrote "Because of the Shame" as a way to make it up to her after she died as a promise to her mom.

Second favourite by them. Because of lyric lines, which are awesome (for example in "Because of The Shame") and because of how it all sounds (for example in "Spanish Moss"). I love the beat of "Rapid Decompression" and I appreciate how the song "I Was a Teenage Anarchist" reminds me of the past and the music I was listening to back then. Simply great composition.
