@Emim: I think what you said describes the real "elitism". Immersing yourself in one particular genre and only listening to obsucure stuff is just closed-mindness IMO.
I think it's more than that. Many users around here refuse to listen to certain bands and even genres, simply because they are popular. I personally can appreciate most any music, even with "bands" like brokencyde.

Converge are pretty popular and they're generally well accepted around (yeah yeah MJ), so I don't really think this metalcore elitism is all that much to do with popularity, I know it is to a certain extent but eh

@Slightly: well Converge is popular and well like around Sputnik, but what about the Outside World ? And I bet a lot of Converge fans would mix the more mainstream metalcore bands with the dirt as soon as you mentioned them. Funny, because I love both Converge and mainstream metalcore

You could still find a lot of people that like the mainstream stuff, but haven't heard of them, I think. Well, I can't actually say that for a fact, because metalcore, mainstream or not, is a somewhat obscure genre where I live.

I think what Slightly means is that metalcore elitism is not based on the popularity of a band, but which social circles the band is popular in. AILD is popular irl, but Converge is far more popular here. We represent a different and much smaller circle, and here, Botch, Converge and TDEP are just the gods of the genre.

And I have nothing against mainstream metalcore btw. I don't really like AILD but August Burns Red are pretty sweeeeet.
