I haven't been able to hear many of the other contenders yet, but I doubt they could beat this.

Well, on first listen this is easily the best since Judgement. Considering most Anathema grows on me, it could possibly take the #1 spot. I'm glad they stopped dicking around with post-rock atmosphere and actually got back into songwriting. I feel like a lot of stuff on the last few albums was sorta pointless, while this has focus and clarity. I can definitely hear a lot of SW influence, especially on the vocals.

tbh i sense a more jonas renske (katatonia) influence on his vocals. especially in the vocal patterns

a simple mistake just reaps of Jonas vocal style minus the female vox and the chorus

At first I really disliked this album, but now I'm really starting to appreciate it. Really great, relaxing atmospheric album, puts you in a great state of mind.

Well Thin Air just ruined music for me, because everything else pales in comparison to it.

Fantastic album, however, Get Off, Get Out sounds like something off Deadwing by Porcupine Tree

Ironic that Steven Wislon did the mixing, i would've love to see his reaction to this similarity xD

Still, amazing return for Anathema

I think that, by this point, Steven Wilson isn't surprised by the huge influence his band is having on other artists (Opeth, Katatonia, Anathema, Abagail's Ghost, etc.).

I have yet to really check out Porcupine Tree, maybe I would like them if I like the bands you just mentioned.

Maybe. Each of those bands that I've mentioned take a little from Porcupine Tree, but still basically do their own thing - except for Abigail's Ghost, they're basically like the beta version of Porcupine Tree.

Edit: Try Fear of a Blank Planet first.

nah man FOBP is a good glimpse of what the band is about now (the darker sound) but you should try out in absentia to get most of their sound throughout their career in one album, then branch
