Dear Mr. Downer,

You do realize most of the songs are about death, and coming to terms with loss, right? Yes, perhaps with the optimistic angle of cherishing the world around, the places which have become sacred through memory, and a very naturalistic take on seeing that in everything around. But hardly "simple" and "cheery".

"One day you're out and give up the fight, you slow down heart-rate... Courageous boy, now you are gone / And run faster yet have no place to go / Your spirit still burns, it's now a ghost sun"; "You wish your love could see you grow older... You and sunrise will never fall under"; "I see you colorful / I see you in the trees / I see you spiritful / You're in the breeze" ; "I wonder if I'm allowed to ever see / I wonder if I'm allowed to ever be free"; "I'm singing a sad tune / Is this song to you?"

^ That covers half the songs right there. Yes, optimistic, but hardly light and cheery. If you want to ignore the content and focus on how you'd like to feel about it (vague homophobia and all) on a surface level, that's fine... but it's hardly the album itself lacking depth in this case.

Relax man, some of us consider lyrics in a different way then others. It could be based on the standards of what we see as dark or it could be that we boldly interpret a line differently to someone else. It's often the case with music lyricism because, in a lot of instances the lyricist will sacrifice sense and shorten what they mean into a metaphor so to fit with the actual song itself.

Unlike poetry, which really only needs to excuse for 'flow' but then flow can diversify more so then a song can. So, you may see this elastic sense of depth in these lyrics but others hear the emphasis on positivism that certainly, at least for me; shines in the opening two tracks and then that, to be a reoccurring theme for the album.

But you can't assume everyone will follow the same perception you do. Saying that they are concrete/ about death, coming to terms with loss, that's just your perception.

Jonsi should just make pop music for the rest of his career. This album is more powerful to me than Sigur Ros' entire discography.
