I thoroughly enjoyed this album, however I feel they'll need to change up their style in order to hold my attention for the next album.

I feel the same way about this that I did Cold Distance. Its pretty good, but it sounds as if they are on the cusp of something better.

Still good though.

Katatonia have basically released the same album at least 5 times.

I have to give it some more spins, it seems.

I realize this album is most likely a grower. 'Departer', 'Idle Blood' and 'The Longest Year' are all great songs, really.

Yeah, the middle part of the album definitely takes a bit more to finally sink in.

This was a rather difficult album to digest at first but I'm finally seeing the whole picture. Awesome album.

Why was it difficult? too slow? This was a pretty accessible album from start to finish I'd say.

Is Mikael Akerfeldt doing guest vocals on Idle Blood? I researched and saw nothing about Akerfeldt being involved, but goddamn it sounds like him for sure. This band have always sounded like they wanted to rump ram Opeth though.

I know exactly what part you're referring to, but it doesn't seem like Akerfeldt had anything to do with it.

Departer ranks up there as one of the more memorable songs of this year for me, and that says a lot considering the amazing year of music we've had so far.

I've heard this once and it's definitely an album I'll have to listen to several times before I can rate it.

Nope, Mike isn't on it. Also Willie, about the credits for the songs; it says in the booklet it was all written and arranged by katatonia at the end

but it says per song who wrote the music and lyrics. at least in my digibook edition i bought last night in amsterdam before going to amon amarth

Oh ok. I never looked at individual song credits. Must be nice living so close to Amsterdam.
