So, I've never been all that big a thrash fan. Metallica is meh, Slayer is even more meh, and up until now, so was Megadeth. This album rips.

Slayer hasn't been good since Seasons..., and from what I've heard their upcoming album doesn't change that.Album's pretty excellent all the way through, but does not justify higher than a 4 because it lacks real standouts. It might not have its own "Holy Wars" but when every song (except "44 Minutes") is "Hanger 18" quality you can't really dock it.

I agree that Slayer hasn't been truly great since Seasons (which is their second best album IMO), but Diabolous wasn't bad and Chirst Illusion was pretty good. I've heard 3 songs off the new one and so far it actually sounds awesome. It's like Slayer's coming back with their DM or Endgame style throwback record. Just from what I've heard, but I'm pretty excited.

Yes, Testament, Megadeth and Metallica are all back in a big way and Slayer does need to be up to standards. Now I'm just waiting for Anthrax to do the same thing and (knowing it will never happen...) a Sepultura reunion with Max.
Either way, if World Painted Blood (yes, stupid album title) gets close to DM, Endgame or FoD then I will be a happy man.

I agree. Anthrax seem to have the biggest egos of any of these bands. They just can't seem to get along. They had a good thing going when they got Joey back in the band, and then they drop him and Dan Spitz again, then they get a new vocalist and can't hold on to him and now they're begging John Bush to come back. Oh yeah, Trivium sucks and Shadows Fall hasn't released a really good album since The Art of Balance. War Within was ok I guess. I wasn't trying to say that either band had released anything really good that they needed to get back to. I just meant that they keep trying to copy the style and sound and then these older bands come back and blow them out of the water.
