Also, after periodically stopping by this site over the past three years I've noticed it's only become harder to have civil discussion about shit. 10/10 community.

Lol funny how you were actually pretty cool to me a few years back Flug but now that I've been gone for a while you're just a dickhead right out of the gate.

And jesus christ why so hostile Alchemist I'm fucking kidding I even called you Shinji. The second post wasn't really directed at you.

I mean I'm not looking for an argument about anything, I just like talking about this album because I can never seem to completely agree with anyone on it.

Yeah, of the entire second disc I really only dig the first half of The Mark Has Been Made and like the first 30 seconds of The Big Come Down. However, some of the worst aspects of this album are definitely on the first disc. I think The Fragile and Even Deeper might be the worst NIN songs ever made next to some of the shit on With Teeth.

Thought I remembered talking with you in the comments of one of my older reviews, but I might be thinking of someone else. If not, way to make a great first impression.

I admittedly kinda like We're in This Together right up until that ear-piercingly screechy chorus, but yeah there's no reason for that song to drag on for 7 minutes when this album is as long as it is. I think the most offensive thing about the second disc is how pointless is feels. Any sense of urgency from the first disc is completely gone, and it feels more like a bonus set of B-sides and demos. I don't think I was ever as bored listening to a song before I heard Where Is Everybody.

Definitely. The Way Out is Through does make for a good opener, I'll give it that. I always liked how the ending had a similar melody to parts of The Wretched. Made this thing feel more like the concept album it was apparently supposed to be. Disregarding the instrumental tracks though, I think the worst track on the second disc is Please, hands down.

Yeah, I think the fact that to this day, the majority of NIN appearences on soundtracks, commercials and trailers are all taken from this album is evidence enough of that.

Yeah it is a pop album but only in the same sense as every Radiohead or every Bowie or every Pink Floyd etc is a pop album

Yeah, I think the fact that to this day, the majority of NIN appearences on soundtracks, commercials and trailers are all taken from this album is evidence enough of that [most of the songs here ARE pop songs lmao]

Yeah, sure. I think Beethoven's 9th is also a pop song while we're at it, for the same reason.

This album has problems for sure, but I find it strange your complaint is that it is too commercial or something. If I remember right this album sold terribly, didn't have any big singles and is musically strange for NIN. I feel like trent was still trying to make innovative music with this and missed. With Teeth and PHM on the other hand I consider hit seeking radio garbage.

trent was always good at implementing hooks that also appealed to a mainstream audience since pretty hate machine
