Certainly they could. These three albums plus Made in Japan sure were solid foundations for the up and coming guitar/keyboard virtuoso duos like Malmsteen/Johanson or even Romeo/Pinella.

But yeah, I think it's dawning on me that MiJ might technically be better than any of 'em. It just works so well.

I do prefer The Mule in studio to the live version on MiJ tho, prob the only track on MiJ whose studio version I prefer.

I can sure understand why such a long drum solo would be pretty unappealing to some, but I think it works well in a live album.

Drum solos are so much better when you're actually in a venue watching them rather than listening to a cd.

It's a shame such musicians are not a patch on Blackmore/Lord. All shred and technicality, no feel or spontaneity.

I'm not sure Gillan would make my Top 10 vocalists, but he sure was one manly as fuck dude.

I think Gillan is in my top 3 actually but that's not a surprise I guess. He's a major reason that MK II had such a success as his screams were so important in shaping Purple's sound.

Of course they did. It's pretty clear how they could attract the likes of Halford and Dickenson, dispite Gillan not even being a tenor.

Sorry about that, it was accidental. It does seem tough to find rock vocalists on the same level as Gillan in his prime, maybe

Tate but that seems a bit questionable, even though I know you love his lyrics and vocals.

Gillan is on my top 3, while Halford, Hughes and Diamond have awesome ranges, Gillan knew better how to go from the lowest to the highest notes, he controlled his voice way more than the others

KD wouldn't make my Top 10 actually, but he was great at what he did.

Halford is in my Top 10 for sure.
