Album is solid, though it drags on a little bit.

Dustin's vocals kind of remind me of Andrew Jordan from Matchbook Romance' "Voices" album.

Honestly, Vheissu is only good for "The Earth Will Shake".

the_wizard...no matter how much i dislike them, they really do evolve and change their sound with their albums (except this one sounds kinda like a stretched out version of one of the alchemy indexes plus other stuff thats popular)...listen to fire from the alchemy index...thats got the most chance of appealing TO YOU...

No, you wouldn't like their back catalogue. Honestly, Vheissu is only good for "The Earth Will Shake".

This is why I'm going to hire you as my "Would I like this?" secretary hahaha.
First quote - You're fucking bonkers.
Second - You would definitely like The Illusion Of Safety and The Artist In The Ambulance if metal is your thing.

Artist is hardly fucking metal.
wizard, you're likely to enjoy large parts if not all of Identity Crisis (not their best album), Illusion Of Safety and the Fire EP.

Expected more from this, I'm actually disappointed. Talking Through The Glass and Beggars are awesome though.

So they said they were looking to stay away from the "sleepy" quality of Vheissu and Alchemy, but I seem to feel it here far more that Vheissu. Thoughts?

Hmm, sounds quite a bit like metal when I hear the riffs in "Under A Killing Moon", "Hoods On Peregrine", "Blood Clots And Black Holes", "Abolition Of Man", and "Paper Tigers". Let's throw in "Silhouette" while we're at it. Those songs are hugely metal-influenced, especially the guitar work and Riley's liberal use of double-bass breaks. The album as a whole is way more metal than the more hardcore feel on Illusion. Not to mention Teppei stated in the liner notes that he loved metal riffs.
First Impressions and IC practically owe their existence to Metallica and thrash metal. TIOS is metal melded with hardcore/post-hardcore. TAITA is metal meets melodic hardcore/rock. Vheissu is Radiohead meets Isis/Deftones. TAI's Fire Disc is an extension of that sound. Beggars is pretty much the only one without an obvious metal influence.
So yeah, you're wrong. Thrice loves metal and it's fucking obvious.

You said he would DEFINITELY like Artist if metal was his thing. I didn't say that there was no metal influence, did I? Where did I say that? Nowhere. I just said it's hardly a done deal because Artist is hardly fucking metal. Evidence of that lies in the fact that it's borderline my favourite Thrice album. It's post-hardcore. So yeah, I'm not wrong.

So because it's your favorite it's not metal? Don't quite get that logic. Say what you will, but the guitar work on Artist is very - obviously - metal. There's major/minor third harmonizing riffs all over it, a metal staple. Lots of palm-muted riffage, another metal staple. Lots of double-bass. It's not a METAL RECORD per se, but there is a lot of it on the record and aside from Identity Crisis, the most straightforward metal record Thrice ever did.

Yeah, sorry, I should probably have elaborated. I don't enjoy metal.

Agreed.

Reading all of these "this is the best Thrice album" comments makes me think that Thrice has a bigger queer audience then Opeth ; ).

I was actually reading about those albums last night and they do sound far more interesting than their other stuff. Maybe I will just work my way backwards with this band.

This album is kinda boring. Though I still love all the world is mad.

Obviously everyone knows their best song is 'A Torch to End All Torches'... lets be honest here...
