Just saw Phil last night at the Church in Philly. He's such a fucking cool, weird, dude. And he and Julie sounded really, really good together. He had some other dude who wore a Sade t-shirt, and opened up for him, play percussion using a synth, but it sounded decent. The only downside was he played for 45 minutes and left. No encore. I guess I can forgive him for being a genius.

Shortly after Wind's Poem came out, I got a chance to see Phil play with a full band in the basement of a local college. He played basically the entirety of Wind's Poem, plus a bit of Black Wooden Ceiling Opening. Before the show, I talked to him for 20 minutes or so, thanked him for his music, and then watched No Kids, Tara Jane O'Neil, and Mount Eerie play for close to four hours. I guess I was just spoiled by that show, silentpotato. I know brevity does not negate quality, but I would have liked to hear more than seven songs. Like I said. though, all's forgiven for him being a genius and a really nice person to boot.

Can anyone rec me something similar to this? A singer/songwriter album with black metal elements. I really like this but I feel that I can find something I can connect more strongly with.

"A singer/songwriter album with black metal elements."
Oooh... I believe this is the only one haha
If you find one, though, shoutbox me.

The Microphones is pretty similar to this as well. Don't expect any black metal, though.

Get "Dawn." It's Phil's most personal record and my favorite of his work with Mount Eerie.

But yeah, if you want black metal elemants, InAbesntia is dead on with "Black Wooden Ceiling Opening." Also, if you've never heard Microphones' "The Glow, Pt. 2" you probably should do yourself a huge favor and listen to that. It's incredible and has some heavier moments on it as well. Get the reissue for a more expansive listen.
