The drumming is the weak link for many of their releases, but in all fairness it doesn't detract from the overall package.
The MOV reissue for this is on the way, can't wait to jam it.

What reissue is on the way?

It came out in February, but I only ordered it recently and it hasn't arrived yet due to the slowed down delivery services.

Oh I didn't know it got reissued recently. Discogs reviews seem enthusiastic and it does trigger animalistic collector pangs in me, but for now I'll stick to my beautiful original CD press (DR11-12!).

Yeah, the CD is more than fine. I hope they will reissue Draconian Times as well, since it's too expensive right now. I'll have my top 6 PL on vinyl then.

The early CDs up to Seals the Sense are gold but of course out of print.
"top 6" is definitely something a casual fan wouldn't say ahah.

Or even top 7 if I still like Medusa as much as I did back around release, but I am not so sure right now. I need to listen to some albums front to back again.
The 2006 reissue CD of Icon that I own sounds the same (I have my top 10 except Plague on CD btw, haha).

Sucks it's just a vinyl release. If they remastered it, I'd be on it (of course).

I thought the vinyl mastering for these guys is the same as the CD mastering.

Music on Vinyl don't disclose this info, but everything I have from them has sounded awesome. No idea about the original pressings and the previous reissues.
The CD already has good dynamics because it's before the Loudness War, no real need to remaster it, especially if that means just making it louder (that's how it usually goes for most CD remasters).

These guys' mastering is hardly guilty of loudness war, to be honest. The only one that instantly pops to my mind is Tragic Idol. Rest is fine as it is in my opinion.

I wouldn't care if it was louder or whatever. I'm thinking more separation between the instruments and maybe a little less muddy (although I've always loved the drum sound on this album. It's definitely unique).

Willie, the whole problem with loudness war is that you can't hear certain instruments or passages as well as you perhaps could because the volume on some of the shit is cranked up too high lol

The funny thing about Tragic Idol is it actually works for it, accentuating the claustrophobic and oppressive sound they got going there. Nonetheless, I am glad they have a dedicated vinyl remaster for it in the 2017 reissue; it's the more pleasing listen, lol.

Yes, I actually agree with that. It definitely complements the overbearing sound they were going for.

I get that. I said I don't care about it being louder. I would want it remastered for the other reasons I mentioned.

I think it'd need a remix for those reasons, too, like they did with Believe in Nothing as opposed to Host and One Second.

But loudness war makes separation between instruments more unclear...
That's why some of the modern releases sound so brickwalled - you can't often distinctly hear what's actually being played.
