I almost wrote a comment as long as a review lol but basically to me the meaning behind Marathon,at least the spoken lyrics represent the way we in which we perceive objects and the external world.

Toby whispering sweet nothings into my ear is half the reason that I listen to this album, the other half being the clarinet in The Manifold Curiosity.
Oh and the end of A Pitcher of Summer.
Oh and the rest.

This album is truly beautiful, it resonates like a dark phantasm, with its blend of neo-classical, sludge metal and post-rock. This is one of the most creative, unique and beautiful albums iv'e ever heard.
This is a great review as well,
