i think the difficulty in this thread stems from people attempting to compare them to opeth and iron maiden, when in reality i'd say their musical ancestors more likely span the spectrum between john coltrane and early red chord. these guys transcend metal, opeth doesn't... that's the difference.
if you're a metalhead and don't listen to anything else, you won't really "get" BTBAM. and if you don't like harsh vocals, then stay the hell away from decent metal in the first place.

Between the Buried and Me is definately not for everyone... so i can understand why people wont like their music...
IMO, these guys are one of the most artistic bands out there today...
the live dvd is breathtaking... SOOOOOO much better then the Silent Circus re-release DVD and, if you have listened to their live performances before, they have obviously upped their live musicianship tenfold... i didnt hear one missed note the entire performance, incredible!

Just saw this, just mindblowing awesomeness covered with coloured chocolate sprinkles. Besides that, can't stand Tommy's growls and Dusty might as well be a living statue.

and the band has come back with improved their stage presence while still maintaining the tightest musical performance around. extranneous word there, but otherwise great review. i just got this last night, and plan on watching tonight m/

I never saw this album as 8 songs, I always thought of it as one giant one-hour-long song lol and the fact that they played it live without missing hardly any notes is just amazing

This album is simply amazing. BTBAM never fails to deliver. This album is nothing less than amazing. Tommy's energy on stage is great, as well as the rest of the band.
Only flaw is some of the camera angles and they could have spent more time filming the drummer, but other than that, its perfect.
4.5/5
Do yourself a favor and buy this album. Twice.
Done. (I guess this counts as well ;) )
Although this sounds almost exactly the same as the studio version, there are parts here that work incredibly well in a live setting. Decade of Statues especially, slays hard.

I wanted to listen to White Walls, just because every musical moment bleeds brilliance. It's an only natural desire. So, I went into iTunes and hit 'White Walls.'
I only noticed about eight minutes in that I was listening to the live version, and not the studio version. These guys are spot on live.

It's a must these days; colors are fading.
Decade of Statues is criminally underappreciated.

This probably deserves a 4.5, not sure if I'm going to up the rating or not. The best part of the album for me is that I only own Alaska and Colors, and I didn't know most of the songs at the end of the show, so its always a treat to put them on. Only problem is I actually have to play the DVD to listen to them.
