i presonally didn't want any nasty surprises on their next album, bands ALWAYS do this, notably the ones i listen to (nu metal bands), how many times have you guys bought an album of a band you really dig and thought: what have they done?!
If playing it safe is boring then don't be disappointed when your bands change their tune and start playing ballads.
