just when you think there is going to be a build up, there isn’t, this is where the transition is just poor

In the Nervous Light of Sunday does that, and it pisses me off! But besides that there aren't any transitions that I dislike.

And by the way, on the allegations of "catchy":

If you have to listen to something multiple times, here's a hint for ya:

It isn't catchy!

Catchy is when you hear something ONE TIME and it grabs you...you could even say it CATCHES you. T.I. - Whatever You Like...now that's catchy! First time I heard that, I went around thinking STACKS ON DECK, PETRON ON ICE, WE CAN POP BOTTLES ALL NIGHT AND BABY YOU CAN HAVE WHATEVER YOU LIIIIIKE. The choruses to most Iron Maiden songs...now that's catchy! Circle Takes the Square? Artistic maybe, but catchy? That I'm not too sure about.

I've listened to Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury countless times, so much that I've memorized some of the verses. Would I call them catchy? Aside from a few punchlines...probably not!

Uh...first of all, I listen to a lot of emo, hardcore, and metal. Hip hop is my favorite genre and what I listen to the most, but some of my favorite albums are of the three aforementioned genres. And I'm not comparing this to T.I...I'm saying that if you have to listen to something multiple times for it to stay in your head, that's not catchy.

In response to: catchy doesn't mean good and not being catchy doesn't mean bad (i don't know how to do quotes)

I completely agree. I'm not saying that T.I. is better than Circle Takes the Square. Paper Trails was okay and had some tracks I liked, and T.I. is a pretty good rapper, but it didn't have a consistent vision and there was simply way too much boring stuff on it. I like plenty of stuff that I wouldn't consider catchy whatsoever, and there's plenty of stuff I don't like that I would consider catchy.

And Iluvatar...seriously? Relax. I don't like an album that you like. Do I still have the right to belong to this site?

Sorry I was catching feelings. And you know I haven't really...still pretty new here. I guess I was getting kinda emotional...must've been all that emo music I listen to, amirite?

What would you consider music that is like CTTS? There's a lot of stuff that I simply haven't rated (mostly because I want my objectivity rating to stay kinda high and I don't want to have go to looking through the pop section to find stuff to rate low). I'll try listening to them again to see if repeated listens really will yield a higher appreciation. After the first real listen, I liked "Interview at the Ruins" but not really anything else.

I can see the city of caterpillar similarity, and maybe old Envy (which I'll admit I don't like as much as their newer post-rock sound).

yeah after a bit of thought I changed my mind. I looked at the other albums I had rated poor (Cradle of Filth? Tool?) and decided if Circle Takes the Square really deserved to be among their number.

The album has a well-executed purpose, they're not gimmicky, and they do what they set out to do. It's just that the end result isn't something that I really like all that much. I'm going to give it a few more listens and see if I can see what other people see in it.

The musicianship is undeniable, but not everyone likes everything that everyone else likes.
