He wouldn't have reached his potential with smn else. It was ozzy who allowed him the studio freedom to play whatever he liked.

"He wouldn't have reached his potential with smn else. It was ozzy who allowed him the studio freedom to play whatever he liked."
Well of course since I highly doubt Ozzy had any idea on what he was doing. He must have been like "carry me pls"

"Quiet Riot would not let him do anything like that"
Exactly that. When i first discovered RR through Ozzy's albums, i searched the net for more of his work. I listened to everything he ever recorded and i remember myself being amazed and confused at the same time when i listened his Quiet Riot albums. It seemed to me impossible that such improvement was possible in such a short time. Then, i read somewhere that the other members of quiet riot told him to keep it simple because their writing skills couldn't match that of Randy's and they couldn't adapt to what he was playing. They couldn't work out a songwriting formula that would fit his guitar heroics. That's why Randy sounds so restricted and...different in those albums.

"forming his technique over many years of playing"
Well, he would abandon the metal scene, probably after another album with Ozzy. He wanted to finish his classical guitar lessons, graduate and pursue a career in classical music.

also, i never understood why ozzy's albums with Randy are so overlooked here in Sputnik. But then again, there are so many other things about sputnik and its users that doesn't really make sense to me...

My only problem with Randy going solo is that he may have turned into just another generic virtuoso like Satriani or Malmsteen

Yeah, very few appreciate his talents, when there are so many shitty guitarists in comparison to him.

I think when people think Ozzy, not BS, they see and hear hair metal, although the first 3 or ok 4 solo are good, just crap studio tricks that sound dated, Tribute loses some of that and I think is the definitive work from ozzy and randy, the I dont know on Tribute is unreal
broke out my NES last month to sell it, plugged in Zelda for a go and the data was still on it, player 1 me was OZZY, player 2 my neighbor, Randy

Ozzy's albums (at least the ones he did with RR) are pure heavy metal. Surely they're affected by the trends and aura of the 80's, but the sound has nothing to do with bands like def leppard or motley crue. Plus, the guitar work is far superior. I would be an avid fan of hair metal if the guitar work was so good.
