This album is special.....Like a ride on the short-bus with helmet and wheelchair kinda special.

Nah, this thing is great. No chances are taken or any kind of further exploration done, but Akerfeldt drops yet another mint collection of tunes for the fans. Consistency. Most bands should look into the concept. And, if the guy woulda deviated much from the course he woulda heard everyone screaming' 'why?' Can't win.

This guy's output is most definitely not poop. Yet, It's true that Akerfeldt's most original musical direction and skillz poop all over the competition. Leaves large deposits of poop on all the pretenders who think they can compete with what he's doing. But, assuredly there's no poop in the actual broth which he's concocting.

Burden is a brilliant song. Great review, I enjoyed the album more than you did, but honestly I didn't miss the death growls much on this album. Then again, my favorite Opeth album was probably Damnation, so that might explain it. I think there are other vocalists out there with better growls.

Akerfeldt is good but he's a much better songwriter than vocalist. Not to say he's not great at either.

He's a good growler, but not the best.

First three songs are insane, not so sure about the last 4 (mainly because I haven't listened to the enough).

are you kidding?

his clean vocals may not be the melodic harmonies of the gods as everybody here says they are, but his growls are some of the most menacing I have ever heard.

the fact that you can actually understand every word he growls is also beyond amazing.

Yeah that's true, but they're not (quite) the absolute best growls ever.

Stanne and Tagtgren come to mind as well
