production value means little

Ehh. Perhaps with skramz, but with genres like hip hop and pop it's really important.

I'm going to have to disagree, although I see where you're coming from the pop.

are you joking? if alexisonfires debut had the same production as their new stuff i'd hate it. and if DEPS new album wasn't so overproduced i'd like it alot more

not joking at all. caring deeply for the production value is a shallow way of perceiving music.

Production can definitely help an album out, but it usually can't ruin anything great for me.

In the same way that you'll like an album as much (give it the same rating) whether you listen to it on crappy laptop speakers or on headphones

' caring deeply for the production value is a shallow way of perceiving music.'

Really? I mean ya there are other things that matter but production is important too. The production helps determine the way the album will sound. Like you can play your instruments perfectluy but if you dont have the recording equipment to get a good sound the whole thing could be ruined. Like if you have bad drum microphones that overload the inputs every time the drum is hit or have a really crappy muffled sound your music will sound bad. If album production doesnt matter why not just record everything on a cheap one-track you buy at Wal Mart?

I guess but with screamo I hardly ever care.

And even in most non-abraisive rock music it can be pretty important. But with heavy music like this that isn't very technical it's no big deal.
