You're right. They hit it big with a sound and they wanted to capitalize on it. Unfortunately that meant an overly redundant album. Minutes to Midnight was a step out of that (and personally I think a step up, but a lot of people disliked it) but A Thousand Suns was way to much trying to fit in with electronic pop (I love concept albums, but that one just didn't give me anything) Haven't listened to the new album yet, but from some reviews it sounds interesting.
