Riffs on Shallow are orgasmic

I think it was only in the post-making of In Absentia where Steve Wilson discovered the underground metal scene, which he introduced as an influence in that record. You can tell by the way Porcupine Tree's songs are made on this album that he takes heavy influence on Progressive Metal; Opeth and Tool in particular.

Thats probably why I found them so easy to get into, since I like both those bands.

Indeed, there's still a marginal difference though. Porcupine Tree have a very, very unique sound, there's no band quite like them. Think Lazarus.
