i wonder if many people here have seen children of men with it's blatant reference to the front cover of this album.

I got this album after reading Animal Farm by George Orwell in class (which the album is inspired by) and the two definitely fit each other.

wow, i never thought of that. from what i remember i read the book the first time i heard this album and it never occured to me.
i feel stupid

well it's more inspired by than based on, remember. it's sort of roger's own take on it, substituting orwell's references to communism with his own beliefs on people's roles in society, and the massive rift between social classes in general, particularly in britain at the time.
just realised i bought animal farm about 6 months and through preoccupation with something else, only got a couple of chapters into it. i really should pick it up again.

it's a tiny book dude, just sit down one afternoon and plough through it. A classic, might I add. And you're right about it being more of an inspiration rather than the album being based on it. Either way, both the book and the album are masterpieces.

they are, indeed, both classics

I used to find this really average. It just hit me one day and now it's one of two albums that for me are perfect.

Not quite perfect, at least for me. Sheep can't compare with the other two.

Animals stands head and shoulders above all other Pink Floyd albums

That's a pretty bold statement, dude. I'd put this at about the same level as Wish You Were Here, which are both below The Wall.

The Wall is so vastly overrated. it's almost as overrated as Dark Side of the Moon. they are all incredible, but oh so overrated. I do rate Wish You Were Here as a classic with this one, but i consider Animals slightly betterThis Message Edited On 06.10.08

Dark Side Of The Moon is probably my second or third favorite Floyd album. Money is hugely overrated and easily the worst song on the album.
Roger's voice is really good on this, suits the music perfectly.

i just feel like Pink Floyd have so many other albums that are better than DSotM and The Wall. They are both amazing though, don't get me wrong there.

I have to say, it's so awesome to log on to the site for the first time, and read a review that illustrates the genius of my all-time favourite album so vividly! And then to scroll down, and see comments by another whole crowd of people who love it as much as I do - I think I'm going to like it here.
Amazing review, I've never seen somebody sum it up so well. I guess I'll have to find another album to write my first review about! :D Excellent job.
To make an attempt at objectivity, I would rate it an overall 4/5. The length and complexity of the feature songs may turn a lot of people off (it definitely turned me off upon first hearing), but on the whole, I think it's compositionally engaging and well-focused enough to convey its personal and socio-political messages to just about anyone - and, as you said, what chillingly relevant messages they are. This Message Edited On 06.14.08

Pink Floyd is too good for ratings.

welcome to the site ragingnoob, pick an album that doesn't have too many reviews for your first review. that's my suggestion
