ikillyou9times said- wow way to way over-state the weaknesses of the album and leave the strengths grossly undervalued. While originality in music is almost always a must have, sometimes bands come along that dont exactly sound brand new, or even different at all, but they create damn good music. The guitars are fun to listen to, the drummer fits well with the music and is pretty damn good, and the breakdowns(although i do agree that they can seem somewhat "mindless") are not a chore to listen to. While the breakdowns should have taken a step in BOO's direction, they are rather intense and aren't the most impacting, but are pretty damn good.

This band is not nearly as bad as this review makes it out to be. It would help if the reviewer weren't sooooooo obviously anti-deathcore or whatever. ill be reviewing this with a much more objective approach in the future

which is 100% correct, ultimatly leaving me to believe this Tyler Munro character is obviously just one of those very jealous individuals along with all these other laughable "elitists" who are too stubborn to admit the sheer brilliance of bands such as Veil of Maya. Sorry if you're offended, but the truth hurts sometimes.

Honestly, from what I've heard, this is a pretty decent album for the Deathcore scene. I mean, when considering all of the other terrible bands around like Carnifex and Emmure who do nothing but play the same recycled riffs just to lead up to a stagnant lame breakdown, bands like Veil of Maya and BOO are definitely not on the same level. Bands like Veil of Maya, After The Burial, All Shall Perish, Despised Icon, Born of Osiris and The Eyes of A Traitor are probably the most talented bands in the Deathcore scene. While many hate the scene, I see the whole "I hate Deathcore" as an elitist argument of most Metalheads. While I love Opeth, Suffocation, and many other true Metal acts, there are some respectable bands in the Deathcore scene. Sadly, the scene is becoming so popular amongst the teens and wannabe's that every band that incorporates breakdowns is considered to be shit.

There is no synth, it's a guitar effect. Pretty harsh review for such brilliant guitar work. The dude is black and likes beats it makes sense he would write with a progressive style. I think the guitar and drums are original and badass. I think the blandness comes from over compression, record labels don't let little bands like this make all their own decisions. Born of Osiris was forced to change their name to that to get signed to Sumerian. Their name was Rosecrance, named after a mental hospital in IL. Which was named after a Shakespeare character. Maybe I'm weird I loved this album. The guitar is fun to learn and play. And you can hear a Travis Barker influence in a lot of parts the drummer does.

Oh i just saw a comment about them sucking live. I've seen them 2 times, first time was amazing, 2nd the sound guy made it shitty (guitar was super quiet). You can't base your opinion on one experience (and be justified). And while their breakdowns go on for a while, they are at least complex and pulsating. It's not like they only do breakdowns anyway, they are very good at mixing up genres, In a lot of their songs you can hear the jazz influence, it's a nice change from other metal.

I think the only reason I like them is because they've directed people to Cynic. Then again i may not want the core fags at the Cynic concert...

False. Crawl Back, Mark the Lines, It's Not Safe, and We Bow In Its Aura are all awesome. But then the rest of the album is either average or bad.

OK. First of all I would not consider this album a "Deathcore" because this is far superior that your average deathcore bands. So saying that they are trying to "save" the genre is just foolish. Genres exist only to impede progression of music. Any artist that decides to start a Core/Metal/whatever gay name you want to give it band is just limiting themselves. Music should come naturally, not to satisfy the market demand. And that is exactly what this album is. Natural. I find your review bad, not in terms of structure but in terms of what is being said. I believe that Marc Okubo is by far one of the best guitarists out there. You can start by his guitar tone which in this album is brilliant. The first step of being a good guitarist is having good and recognizable tone. The chugging is not generic as in just open riffs, but syncopations complex enough to keep the listener interested. The riffs are written in such a smart way that there is constant progression in the songs but in a way not to sound wanky, but rather to give the listener the impression that there is some form of structure. Almost every next riff in the song is part of the overall progression and is based on the previous one to give a sense of familiarity to the listener. If you play an instrument and especially if you play guitar (which I do), you will find that everyone in the band is very good at their instrument. Mark Okubo however steals the show. His riffs are original and refreshing. Now for the singer, I find him not mono-tonal but the opposite. His growls have a depth and resonance that most growlers fail to achieve.

To wrap it up, I find this album awesome and you are insulting it by relating it to "Deathcore". If you think its shit, then start a band and go save "Deathcore" yourself.

I give this album 4/5.

no but some of the stuff he said was true

but like, there are people on here who will immediately dismiss something because it has breakdowns or is tagged "deathcore" without realizing that there are 90's death metal bands who had breakdowns way before "deathcore"

this is a pretty solid fucking album
