This is where the band becomes even more epic and amazing than they were previously. The sound palette expands with more aggression from Russell Allen which allows for more vocal contrast, sort of the way the growl/clean singing contrasts work in Opeth. From start to finish, this album just slays and Romeo's complicated guitar riffing is off-the-charts amazing. I have the deluxe edition with the bonus track, a re-recording of "Masquerade" from the first album (which had a different singer).
Side note: I played this for a co-worker once and when he heard the orchestral intro to the title track, he said it sounded like the soundtrack from the 70's TV program, "This Week in the NFL"... and I reluctantly had to agree, haha...
