I know i'm right, you simply need to look beyond elitism or even talent. It's the songwriting. Which combination of five musicians in any genre whatsoever could create such intense emotion without a single fucking lyric. Listen to this when you're legitimately heartbroken and maybe you'll understand. But without this album, the screamo revival wouldn't exist. Emo in general would struggle for instrumental idealogy, post-rock would seize to exist, etc. etc.
This album is simply a saving grace to modern music with 50% of people recognizing it's importance, and tve other 50% just denimg it's beauty beyond words to promote their 1.) elitism 2.) unexused taste for anything not metal/rap/country 3.) just plain devoid of human emotion.
Anyone who thinks this album is "good" at least has one of the three qualities described. Maybe you didn't give it the attention it deserves, i honestly don't know your reasoning, but i know it saved my life to a certain extent, as i unveil emotions about numerous things while listening to this. Fuck, i even got my best friend who used to think "Tha carter 3" was the best album of all time to put this in his top five snd change his mudic taste, let alone his life around, i know it's not
Just me.
But seriously, even if this is the Only post-rock album you ever listen to, it's simply beautiful and you have to admire what they did with this album.

I have the feeling that this deserves a 5 only for 'Your Hand In Mine'.
Don't get me wrong, this is the only album I'm feeling this way.

Hating post-rock in general is a thing, and it is the only thing.

it really says something about this site when explosions in the sky are the "mainstream" band it's cool to hate on. it's kind of dumb. i'm surprised the rating is so high too. obviously it's the people that love this album that tend not to comment on this website.

listened to this album on the drive home after breaking up with my girlfriend in november. there's a particular note they play in first breath after coma that overwhelms me with emotion every time i hear it. not afraid to admit i cried like a baby on that drive home. this album is something special. like someone said previously, it's all about the songwriting. sure, you can deconstruct this and conclude that it's just 3 guitars doing the same sort of thing for 45 minutes, but that's missing the point. every note that's played is an exudence (not sure if that's a word) of that band member's deepest emotions, i'm certain of it.

you're over-thinking this
i mean it's great that you love an album quite that much but it doesn't necessarily mean it's the utmost of deep emotions from the band members

I like the second song the best
Songs 3 and 4 aren't really worth listening to
