I don't think it's a bad record. The growth from CI to MM was way bigger, but that wasn't really a surprise. That said I don't think this is simply ''panasonic youth pt. 2''. Stuff like ''black bubblegum'' and ''milk lizard'' definitely shows some change for the band. They aren't supertechnical songs but enjoyable nonetheless. That's how I feel about the record as a whole, it's just a fun, enjoyable record.

Milk Lizard isn't even all that bad. They still are super technical, but aren't 100% of the time like they were on CI.

hahaha, this review is full of interesting comments. I think the reason behind Ire Works's general dissaproval is the fact that there's an abyss of difference between this and CI, the band has focused more in experimenting, and just being different, I think that their next album is going to be less experimental and better polished, blending flawlessly their mathematical-chaotic stuff with their odd experimentation. I just loved Ire Works and I'll write a review pretty soon

This was my first foray into DEP and I was unimpressed.
|

the only true stand outs here are the final three tracks, with mouth of ghosts easily being the best on the cd.

This was my first foray into DEP and I was unimpressed don't define DEP by this record. This is easily their worst imo. Check out Miss Machine or Calculating Infinity instead.

ok, it´s already been a while since I purchased it, I liked it since the first time I listened to it, but now that I´ve listened to it 23094758347 times, I could state that it is in fact an excellent album, it doesn´t matter if it is better or worse than the previous 2 albums, by itself it is a great recording that shows insane technical skills and trippy experimentation, my only complaint about this album is that it sounds kind of overdone (know what I mean?) I hope next DEP album has a more ..."raw" sound

I think us few are the only ones that really don't like the album...I mean look @ all the reviews for it lol - everyone is freaking out about how awesome this record is.

Its good, but not that good, i enjoy listening to it. First two tracks and Milk Lizard own the rest of the album though. Next album needs to be real DEP.

I usually agree with most of your reviews Dfelon but I think you're abit too harsh on this bad boy.
They lost 2 original members before they recorded this and considering being one guitarist down they performed quite well on this.
The only real complaint I have is that there is too much filler.

I think it's hard to rate a band people have big expectations for because its hard to say whether or not you are rating how good the album is or how good it should/you expected it to be
