It basically read: PROG ROCK SUX WHERE ARE THE GROWLZ?

Damnation is an amazing album. Sure, all of the heavy aspects are gone and its all soft and progressive rock tunes but they are all amazing.

Just listened to this again for th first time in a while. Masters Apprentices and the title track are among my favorite Opeth songs.

But that's the crazy thing about Opeth. We may all agree that "this is their worst", but unlike most bands where their worst is usually a debacle, the worst Opeth has to offer is still Great!

I mean maybe this is one of the so-called "weaker" Opeth albums, but that doesn't mean that it isn't great.

It's absolutely ridiculous to say this album is less emotional than Damnation. I actually find it much more emotional than Damnation. It really isn't aggressive at all - to me, it's by far their most depressing release. The opening pair of Wreath and Deliverance is suicidally depressive. I admit that the one riff you mention in Wreath does seem really out of place, but that's the only part of the song that doesn't work IMO, and it's also clearly related to the first/last riff in the song. That song doesn't go on too long, at all. If you can't relate to the emotions expressed in this album and the way they're expressed, then I see why you're saying what you're saying, but it's just not true.

By the Pain I see in others is a bit of a mess for sure, but an appealing mess. AFJ is a bit too long and repetitive, and has a corny heavy riff as an ending, but it works nicely with the first two songs and has some great ideas in it. It's true that this isn't by any means the best Opeth album, but it's still a damn great record.

One of my least favorites of theirs, but the title track and A Fair Judgement are just too good.

I love Deliverance. Don't hear the flaws that many seem to.
