I'm going to have to disagree about your saying that The Messenger is a weaker song. I find The Backdraft to be lesser. I quite like The Messenger. I do agree with your opinion of The Arsonist, though. Once again, great review. Probably the best I've read on here.

So finally absorbed the fire disc. Basically it rules, but water is better.

The only thing holding The Messenger back from being a perfect song (for Fire) is its incredibly abrupt end. That song could be twice as long.
That and The Arsonist having very subtle nu metal elements are my only gripes with Fire.
Water is awesome though, fo sho.
So what's Air supposed to be like? I think Earth is going to be pretty much all acoustic stuff, but what about Air?

Air is really diverse, a lot of growth throughout songs, and I'm feeling something like Water with more guitar rock instead.

Is he going to upload them to an mp3 or actually use a CD player? Because if it's the former it doesn't matter. Anyway, I'd just put them on one for ease's sake.

O wow how good is Thrice. They have never had a bad release, and are the paradigm of what a band should be like today. I'm pissed because I wasn't that into them when I saw them coheadline with Thursday a while back, right around when Artist in the Ambulance was released. Next time they come around, i'm definitely seeing them again.

Fire disc on first couple of listens through = disappointment.

Water disc on first couple of listens = lovely (for want of a better word)

So far I'm thinking Fire is about a 4-4.5.

Not quite sure about Water yet though.

I felt the same about Fire, but after a few more listens I began to enjoy it.

The Whaler IMO is the best on the whole album.
