Take a listen to some of the older songs. Having Tarja instead of Anette gave older Nightwish a different feel. The band has seemed to go in different stages too. Dark Passion Play, Once, and Century Child are the current symphonic "movie score" music. Wishmaster and Oceanborn is the pure power metal side, while Angels Fall First is the folk side.

And the person who wrote the newest soundoff on the album is completely retarded. Saying Emppu is the bassist and back-up vocalist makes me very This Message Edited On 08.08.08

It's more folky than anything else they've done. But I do agree that it's weird.

more folky than Last of the wilds/moondance/the islander? :/

not individual songs, I mean the overall tone of the album is more folky. Those three songs have the most folk in them out of their entire discography.

"Combining Celtic folk music with heavy guitars and rock drums just DOES NOT WORK."

Actually i think Eluveitie does it quite well, anyway this album gets better every time i listen to it, it's deffinitly not great but i love poet and the pendulum and the islander.

The thing is, though, Eluveitie works it into their metal riffs. The metal part comes first and foremost, and then the folk is combined. That works fine. Writing a traditional Celtic folk tune and then sticking pounding drums and guitars, on the other hand, is incredibly awkward.

So the concert was awesome last night. Anette dyed her hair for some reason, but that was the only bad part. Sonata Arctica was pretty boring though

After reading through some of the old comments here, I now feel rather pleased with the fact that I listened to the album with few expectations. It let me judge it on its merits rather than a wet dream for Oceanborn.

For the longest time I had only heard this one and Once. Two weeks ago I got all of their other albums and have been listening to them non stop. Especially Century Child.

Good, solid album. I think Nightwish will survive without Tarja, but they seem almost like a completely diffrent band now...
