Hey jingledeath =)
That is the question I am trying to get answered, if all music I listen to is bad, what should I listen to that is good?
| | | Album Rating: 1.0
its not that its bad its just extremely cliche list of bands to like, in that its beyond obvious you havent tried to venture down any path to uncover more and more bands not as many people are familiar with, but I'm sure that since you're here it'll be easier
| | | I wouldn't call what you listen to bad as much as I would call it generic. Granted, I might call it bad if I really cared to listen to some of it again. (I was big on everyone of those bands, but for nostalgic reasons I avoid being negative about them).
A Wilhelm Scream are like Rise Against with an extra ingredient (metal) tossed in. You could start with Ruiner or Career Suicide.
Fair To Midland is good as well. While not resembling many bands you have heard really, they have a hard rock edge, but I wouldn't consider them hard rock.
I didn't even notice that you had Coldplay in the list of bands, but they are good, and you could probably dig Radiohead if you haven't already. Check out the Bends by Radiohead.
You could probably get into Underoath as well.

I didn't say you listen to bad music.I just think there's a lot of good stuff out there that you'd like.
Go to the Top Albums part of the site and check out whats hot an happening.
Also by your current taste I'd suggest 30 Seconds to Mars, Sevendust, 10 Years, All That Remains (off the top of my head). This Message Edited On 11.27.08

Thanks, I'll check those bands out
I find it quite confusing that liking bands that happen to be mainstream is wrong and that you should listen to bands that not many have heard of. If a band sells 50 million records they must write really, really, REALLY bad music, no?
| | | It's the fact that mainstream bands play a distinct type of music that appeals to an audience that looks for that certain aspect, or type of writing. (i.e. Nickleback is the "perfect" mixture of Hard Rock and Contemporary Country that can be heavy or heartfelt).
If you like Linkin Park, fine, but don't listen to just them for the rest of your life. Try other bands out, and maybe those bands with knock your top three out of the top spots, or maybe not. Either way attempt to expand your musical palette.
| | | Check out older Thrice, The Illusion of Safety, or Artist in the Ambulance.

When I look for music I don't look for exactly that and that attribute, but rather what the lyrics are about, how the songs are emotionally and, that it needs to be catchy (as in catching MY personal attention and holding it). Atreyu, Linkin Park, and Three Days Grace are the bands how have been most successful in doing this for me, so far. But I enjoy other bands as well of course, just not as much.

lol I used to think the same thing a few years ago.i still like commercial music but I've also learned to branch out into other less commercially successful genres.

I'm not trying to be offensive but if you want good lyrics, those bands are pretty poor landmarks, but I'm not blaming you cuz you just haven't been exposed to much. if that's a main interest for you then I'd recommend Neverending White Lights, Katatonia, The Cure, Red House Painters, Mew, RX Bandits, Kent, Our Lady Peace, newer Anathema, Nothingface, Alice In Chains, Joy Division, I could go on, I'm just trying to helpThis Message Edited On 11.27.08
