never looked at it this way but "let freedom ring with a shotgun blast" is oddly applicable to suicide as well

"i can't wait until Robb comes to his fucking senses and writes another great album. I genuinely believe he still has some greatest left in him. I hate how cyclical the quality of his work ends of being. Creates a few amazing albums and goes from being humble to full of himself. His ego then writes 2-3 mediocre records. He finally realizes how shit he's become (he doesn't vocalize this) and then writes another few amazing albums and the cycle repeats."
Completely agreed

Unfortunately, given how these cycles have gone, we'll probably get another Catharsis before we get something decent

Then again, I was looking at your ratings and I don't think you'll be swayed either way, lol

yeah i think flynn is a hack and he got lucky that this album was any good
everything else this band has made has been vulture-like cynicism to cash in on popular metal trends, from nu metal to the melodic metalcore on blackening
his previous band is overrated as hell too so yeah

Yeah, I can see what you mean. Even with this album a lot of people accused them of jumping on the Pantera bandwagon at just the right time. Idk though, with this album and The Blackening, I still see a lot of songwriting quality regardless of the trend-hopping.
As for the previous band, are you referring to Vio-lence or Forbidden? I'm not too familiar with the latter, but I do enjoy Vio-lence quite a bit

vio-lence ain't bad but you could do so much better with thrash from that era
he was only with forbidden during the demo era (and tbh that band is also not super remarkable but this is a hotter take for sure)

The only thing I remember not liking about Vio-lence was the vocals, which were pretty damn annoying. I enjoyed the music though, and I appreciate that they were willing to be more raw and aggressive than a lot of the other Bay Area bands at the time

agreed on the vox
agreed on the bay area thing as well, the thing most people dont realise is that the bay area didnt really have the most interesting bands in the genre

I can agree there as well. As far as thrash goes, I'm definitely more of a teutonic thrash guy. I love how fucking brutal and relentless it is, and I think bands like Kreator and Sodom should get just as much credit as Slayer when it comes to pioneering death metal and black metal back then
