great album but not as good as i remember. i think the biggest problem ive got with this is the type of shouty vocals speed is using here. they are quite monotonous. maybe he was trying to emulate devy a little bit or smth but it doesn't really work for me.

You can really tell that this was a transitional album for them. One of the chuggiest albums I've ever heard

Stil some fun melodies here and there but I just don't understand the supposed excellence of this album

--Still some fun melodies here and there but I just don't understand the supposed excellence of this album--

I know it's obviously disputable, but to me this album was a huge leap in quality compared to their previous releases, but also a natural progression from A Predator's Portrait. The production was better, the melodies were stronger, and the choruses were definitely catchier. It obviously has a huge Devin Townsend influence, as well.

--You can really tell that this was a transitional album for them. One of the chuggiest albums I've ever heard--

I personally feel like every album after this until The Living Infinite were the transitional albums as they tried to figure out what to do after this one and not really nailing anything.

I think they entered their proper sellout phase after this album and only around "the panic broadcast" have they started settling into their modern sound

I can agree with that. From their debut through this album, each release was a natural progression from the previous one. After that, they were all over the place. I never really listen to The Panic Broadcast, so I've always think it was The Living Infinite where they settled on a sound. Maybe I'll check that one out again.

The panic broadcast literally gave me hope for this band again after 3 lazy radio rock albums

Never really listened to this record, three tracks in and this sounds pretty cool. Love the rougher production. Pretty cool riffs but especially the drumming and keyboards are interesting

Always nice seeing newer Soilwork fans checking out their older stuff. Everything before this is also really good, especially Chainheart and Steelbath.
