I might 5 A Senile Animal. I love it so much and not a single track really bores me at all. Plus, sometimes Buzz's vocals can get irritating at times but on that record not once do they bother me.

the drums on that album are just as fucking sick as it gets. dual-drummers is an interesting idea. they pulled it off with that type of music and dale and coady totally killed it, honestly them together on that album makes it one of my favorite drum albums

Fear. Check The Maggot and Stoner Witch.
A Senile Animal is a great place to start with Melvins, but can give a false impression of the band.
Although their albums seem to often lose momentum, they don't have any weak songs. Everything has it's purpose with this band

it has a purpose yeah but is it's purpose worth it?
personally I never feel compelled to listen to SEB
just me tho best band ever m/

Inbred, I actually have listened to a lot of Melvins discography so far. I just haven't rated anything from them yet. I have listened to this, Porch, bullhead, A Senile Animal, Lysol, and the new album. I still have plenty to go and will listen to those two albums for sure. I honestly had no idea they used dual drummers but that's pretty sick. Do they do that for every album or just a few of them?

oh good on ya mate, GPT, Bullhead and Lysol are all great albums!
They had the bassist and drummer from Big Business join them for (a) Senile Animal and they stayed on full time after that. The other albums with 2 drummers are Nude With Boots and The Bride Screamed Murder.
SA is def the best of the bunch, but I also really enjoy NWB.

| |
Bride screamed murder is awesome yeah, my fav album from them is Stag though (most Melvins record too)

Stag is great, but I haven't gotten into it nearly as much as most of thier other stuffs.
You think Stag is the most "melvins" Melvins record eh?
|
| |
Yep, it's got almost everything the Melvins have done: badass tracks, weirdly groovy tracks, dark f**ked up and scary soundscapes, hilarious/ridiculous tracks and regular crushing tracks. All of it forming the complete Melvins experience.
|
| |
not to mention stag has 'baby' vocals in skin horse... they're such a bunch of fucking weirdos. The best song Melvins ever wrote is 'it's shoved' off bullhead. My favourite album of theirs is stoner witch.
|
| |
I was thinking about Cottonmouth but Skin Horse was one of the most awkward and funny moments of my life when I tried to introduce Melvins to a bunch of friends. Bullhead is on the same spot as Stag to me (Hostile ambient takeover too m/). The record of theirs I should really try to listen to more is Gluy Porch but it's sooooooo heavy I haven't felt like stomaching it in awhile
