not really
tbh they were always a band with huge backlash potential due to the hype and theatrical sound / lyrics, always very “easy to dislike” but plenty disagree re this album
the new one is a completely different kettle of fish

I've been proudly shitting on BCNR since their first album, before it was cool

Windmill nonsense.
Binnable from the start.

I mean they also have a completely different vocalist / sound now, so although there are shared ingredients it stands to reason some people would not enjoy the new one
they just produce bad music now tbh (I can say that as I have a field of ref for similar things), whereas this is more of an ‘acquired taste’ mostly due to the vox I guess
Saying it’s cool to dislike them all of a sudden completely misses the point and sounds like a RYM comment (not a complement - @osmark)

new one doesn't do anything Time n Place by KKB or the first 2 Belle and Sebastian albums don't do better
|
| |
Album Rating: 2.5
ok but to be compared to the first two Belle and Sebastian albums is extremely high praise

yeah, honestly it seems like a very pointless comparison
same re JN tbh (although it made slightly more sense at least)

I feel like Zak when I see that "windmill" tag, ngl. Almost none of that shit is any good!

don't get the Time n Place comparison at all, but more importantly how dare you!
B&S are yesterday's beige though, so that's fair

It is.
Listening to their 3 albums again and this one is way better than the one before and the new one. Like way way better.

Yes, this album is the BCNR pinnacle

Squid are the best of the 'Windmill' bunch, The New Sound is better than any BM album but there's no way you could seriously call that 'Windmill'

Squid are competent and kinda enjoyable, if fleetingly
This album is peak Windmill
“The New Sound” should maybe be treated as a separate entity, altho it’s not like the “Windmill” thing is based on a defined shared style as far I understand (just a local scene where the stylistic similarities are vague at best). It’s a great album tho

this album was Windmill's most promising scion, rendered tragically impotent after an anxiety-induced ball shaving accident, and the New Sound is the magic egg no one expected any of those fuckers to lay
Squid is best kept in the freezer

Windmill is a scene with a few good songs and a lot of mediocre bands but this band has always been absolutely unbearable

I think the Brooklyn stuff is less accomplished but maybe more interesting on average, but that most good stuff in Brooklyn isn’t really “post-punk”. You’re right tho most is “dross” (zakalword)
Idk what the best stuff in uh. Is it London. Is tho
Sometimes I wish I had done the grad school in the UK thing but I didn’t apply to any scholarships so it was munny
