People talking about genres and whatnot on the previous page and that the band is better just playing metal, which I completely disagree with. There’s hardly any extreme metal in here and it’s their second best after Sunbather imo

I read the conversation, I just think that term is a stretch, particularly in relation to this record. I see 'genre-bending' as a descriptor that's reserved for projects that stand-out as being ambitious and somewhat experimental. This is mostly very ordinary.

boring shoegaze, boring postrock, boring alt rock and one phoned as hell in blackgaze climax at the end
sunbather was at least cohesive, but this band's "genre-bending" mostly winds up as trash like baby blue and you without end. they should stick to straight metal like brought to the water and black brick, or foo fighters-y agalloch worship like gifts for the earth
shoegaze is fuckin dead

"third wave post rock human centipede" is still my favorite description of this

you have no idea how frustrating it was to sink like 2000 words into this fucker and then come upon that lmao. based quote

Of course this won’t appeal to everyone, but I don’t see how its ordinary at all. Earlier on this thread I asked if anyone who thinks it is could name another album that sounds similar, and no one could successfully.

sounds like an obvious combination of obvious artists that have been cited several times over since the review body
saying that it's extraordinary because no single generic album has its exact combo of generic traits is like buying two navy suits from two separate discount retailers, swapping the jackets and trousers, and claiming you've come up with a distinctive new look

honestly wish they had removed all metal aspects from this. every segment is just awkwardly forced in
|
| |
on the one hand yes, on the other hand lmao can you imagine this even blander?

Wish they'd had a few MORE metal aspects thrown in to break up the sameness of the whole thing.

As an album this sucks to listen to one after the other. Everything just mushes together, but god damn theres some good songs on here. Great mass is fantastic.

Also I still haven't received my vinyl copy of this. Where the hell is it?

Not generic and no there aren’t bands making music that sounds like this. People need to listen closely, there are lots of great details to appreciate in every song.

since blackgaze has been considered it's own thing for over a decade now, i wouldn't catagorize anything this band has done as genre-bending

Uhh, have you heard any shoegaze from the last 25 years?

How someone listens to this and actually thinks it sounds like typical shoegaze is baffling to me.

iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii dunno about that one chief

every shoegaze song has its own waveform, much like a snowflake
every snowflake is unique
therefore deafheaven essentially invented snow with this album
