yeah trifman i'm fully embracing blackgaze as the apogee of music genres

(it's the inbetween of dream pop and depressive suicidal black metal)

Yeeesssssss budgie! It totally is. And Alcest's version of it is exceptionally well-crafted and dreamy.

The reason this isn't equal with Écailles, for me at least, is obviously the bookends. Not to take anything away from this but Écailles is simply better connected.

I was recently in mourning and heard Ecailles and Kodama back to back. I found that Kodama is slightly more consistently awesome.

Eh. I get Onyx' purpose but it's frankly nothing compared to, you know what...

Sur L'Ócean. You're right, that is the better closer. Both are 5s to me though.

I admit I cheated and removed Onyx from the album. Recommended.

Onyx is a great cool down after the climax of Oiseux tbh

I think Onyx is Tool inspired. A reversed riff from Je suis with a lot of effects and stuff. It's like Mantra and I would never complain about Mantra, because I think it sits there perfectly on Lateralus. It's the same thing with Onyx, it's in the right place and leaves the listener in total and disturbing darkness, but ends on a quiet note. Sur l'Ocean is still the stronger closer though

I’m kinda curious if Neige has more of the mournful/sorrowful or whatever you want to call it (beautiful), guitar pieces ala Sur L'Ócean in him or if that was a one-off. Guess we’ll find out on the forthcoming album, although I’m quite sure it won’t have the subtle darker edge found in parts of Écailles and probably more of the slightly lighter middleground cemented here.

Nice to see that people like Onyx. I don't see a lot of people talking about it.

Pretty uneventful song, right? Kinda ruins the flow for me, so I got rid of it.

That is my MO in all walks of life.
