Yes I believe I understand your point.

But that's inevitable. This genre reached a "saturation point" somewhere between 93/95. Those "more progressive" fusions you say was an attempt to keep the genre alive (more or less). However bands like Opeth or Behemoth in my opinion continued to develop good work within the genre.

"Progressive jazz fusion stupid death metal, technical wank death metal, br00talicious death br00tal metal, and the rest of the nonsense."

I know the times change guys. World keeps spinning. The bands tried to keep up with the times, and to stay in business making music. I understand all of that.

However, we have the benefit of hindsight today. Nothing is a better blueprint for kickass metal than oldschool death metal circa 1992-1993. At this point they were able to draw from thrash metal, doom metal, grindcore, and add small tweaks of progression, technicality, and brutality to it and not go overboard with it. It's really the perfect metal.

An argument can be made they "tried to keep the genre alive" but looking back is this not bullshit? Death metal didn't even start to get major publicity until 1993, and it was soon bastardized, watered down, and splintered.

He's obviously a troll but in the 90's people did actually look at Atheist, Death, late-Pestilence, etc as trendy jazz metal that wasn't trve.

Back in the days when Morbid Angel released Blessed Are the Sick, some musical experts said the genre already reached full maturity and they were right.

The best efforts within this genre were released between 87-95 (with a few honourable exceptions).

So what? That's usual human behavior towards changes and "unknown territory".

"best efforts within this genre were released between 87-95"
lol, bullshit.

I'm arguing that "oldskoool rah rah herp derp" twats like you have nothing to back that up except for some "kvlt hurr durr" releases like Brutality, some pseudo-romantic feelings similar to knuckleheads wishing back to the 3rd. Reich, Mussolini, Stalin or Mubarak, some non-existent "statistics" from empiric "numbers" that are probably also crap and shit like your alleged jailtime and faux "I'm so old blah blah" attitude.

Good day to you, Thor. I must say, reading a review of yours is like strolling through a morning forest, through the mist and dew of the coming sunlight. Nothing matters as you walk amongst nature, admiring the life around you, which seems to flourish with upmost serenity. Quietly you stoop to feel the ground beneath your feet before lifting your head to the blue skies, feeling the breath of life filling you. Contemplating those you love bring tears to your mind's eye, reminding you that existence is precious, its happiness fragile. Suddenly life is perfect, and nothing can stand between you and that peace, which you have suffered greatly to obtain - a tranquil sense of the world, in all its beauty, with all its spirit.
