"It’s definitely a rarity in the genre in that the band sound like they’re having the absolute time of their lives recording and playing those songs, and I find it infectious"
yes lol fr
"I would enjoy listening to any song on Fortress twelve times in a row more than I would Scurrilous in its entirety."
and v much yes, that pile of threadless tech wank sounds exactly like the Fortress party rush wore off and they decided to power through the rest of the night as joylessly as possible

Overt tongue in cheek bullshit suits Rody better than whatever tf he was doing here. Fortress is all around more memorable. Kezia’s lyrics were a bit cringe imo, and doesn’t have the same level of character Fortress did.

Straight up thought pth was a Christian metal band when I first heard kezia

Kezia’s lyrics are good, don’t get me wrong, but they’re also awkwardly prolix; like a precocious high school student’s stilted college admission essay, or Baseline’s Madvillainy review.

I overlistened to Fortress so bad that I usually come back to this one between the two now.

I had Fortress on vinyl but I used to listen to it so loud the record would constantly skip

not a 5 for me but still sits up there with classics, I enjoyed the lyrics in this more than Fortress. Blindfolds Aside is one of the coolest music videos I've ever seen.

Didn't the original bassist write all the lyrics till he jumped ship?

Rody wrote Scurrilous and I think Arif was still in the band for that album.

Pretty sure Arif wrote C’est La Vie and Sex Tapes though? Which are like 2 of the 3 tracks I go back to on Scurrilous (Hair Trigger being the third)

Idk. I didn’t really like that album at all.
