Ha, that's actually a really good point. The best songs from both of the recent albums would probably be a 4, maybe a tad higher.
They haven't reached the point of where I am about to give up on them or anything. If the next album continues the slide, it will definitely speed up the process, tho.
I would also say Beggars was a big grower for me, but I haven't really changed my opinion about this one since it was released. Always been a solid 4 to me.

Anthology is def one of their best songs. So emotionally authentic. Even though I’m a new fan, it’s just so touching, meaningful and bittersweet (knowing this was right before their indefinite hiatus). Definitely glad they continued on, though I know the uncertain years in between must have been torturous.
How long were they on hiatus for? And when did they announce it — right before MM’s release, or a few months after etc?

This felt like the perfect album to end their career on, especially with a song like Anthology.
They announced the hiatus two months after this record came out (2011) and went on a farewell tour. They came back in 2015, performing at a few festivals and at the end of that year, they announced they were working on new music.

Can’t decide between Red Sky or Disarmed as their best album closer. Close call.

Red Sky out of those two, but I'm gonna go with Beggars as best closer

I think I’ll go Red Sky as well. But both phenomenal songs.
I like Beggars, but not quite as much as most seem to here. It’s not even one of my favs off the album. Somewhere in the middle.

Have "The wind's a cheating wife, her tongue a thirsty knife. Love Dustin" written by his truly, in permanent marker in my passport.
Legit one of my fave songs of all time (even though Illusion is by far my fave Thrice album).

@Larkin: I absolutely love how the Beggars t/t starts so simplistic, with wonderful lyrics, and it ever so slowly evolves into a post-metal jam. It hits me so hard at the end. I can understand not being huge on it. Red Sky is definitely top-tier though.
@blast: That's super awesome. Did you tell him Red Sky was one of your favorites or did he just write a random lyric of his choosing? Goddamn, I'm jealous lol

Yeah but Beggars is definitely a solid song. Last minute or two is amazing, but the rest of it just doesn’t really captivate. It is very well done on how it builds though.

@Xing: I gave him the lyric. Took him a few secs to figure out it was from his song haha (or maybe it was my accent).
It was a solo gig of his when I was in the UK like 3 years ago. I asked if they'd be playing Red Sky at their only UK show that year (at a festival) and he said yes. He lied and I'm still waiting to hear it (have seen Thrice, thrice). Asked for Beltsville too and he said there was no fucking way.

That’s so awesome, blast! Damn he shot you down for Beltsville huh?

It's one of their most consistently played songs, so I assume he just figured they would play it and then they changed their mind the day of. I bet you'll hear it next time!

@Larkin: yeah unfortunately - it's like top 5 Thrice for me but apparently they tried playing it live years ago and it didn't sound any good.
@Xing: Yup, sure hope so! Don't think I can afford to hit them on this tour (I'm from NZ and would have to trek it to Australia) but one day I'll make it happen if it's the last thing I do.

This did indeed grow on me. Bumped it to a 4.5, bumped Beggars down to a 4.
My ranking right now:
Vheissu
M/M
Beggars
Water
Fire
The Artist
Air
Earth
I’ve bumped IOS twice, but not enough to confidently rank. But as of right now, it would be between Air and Earth. But I know it’ll grow on me some more.

Air and Earth have some great individual songs (Daedalus, Come All You Weary), but are weaker as a whole than Fire/Water.
